Pope Francis tells us we are called to protect people and the planet, living our faith in relationship with all of God’s creation. This environmental challenge has fundamental moral and ethical dimensions that cannot be ignored.
St. Thomas a’‘Becket’s 21-Day Challenge encourages our parish families to really take a look at how we can make positive change and care for God’s creation starting now, right here in our homes. We know we can make a difference in a short time. We are challenging our parish community to some simple changes from January 9th - January 29th - use reusable grocery bags, reduce your shower by two minutes, one meatless meal a week, lower your thermostat by two degrees, turn the water off when brushing your teeth, and unplug electronic devices when not in use.
We’ve created a form for each family to track the changes and at the end of the 21-Day Challenge the Peace and Justice Committee will determine the cumulative total for the parish. During the challenge, there will also be bins in the Gathering Area to collect plastic grocery bags, gently used shoes and blue jeans. All items will be re-purposed.
