At St. Thomas a'Becket, Deacon Jim:
reads the Gospel at Mass and preaches;
assists the priest at the Eucharist;
presides at Communion services, weddings and baptisms;
coordinates our RCIA and Adult Faith Formation programs;
counsels parishioners whose lives have been touched by crime or prison;
serves as the chaplain for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
He works in prison ministry as a volunteer chaplain and Head of Religious Volunteers. This work includes:
Visiting the inmates at the Huron Valley Women's Prison;
Conducting Communion services and Bible studies;
Counseling women and their families;
Coordinating volunteers to visit the prison;
Offering an approachable, non-judgmental acceptance and outreach.
