Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLW) is returning for the 2022-2023 school year during the 10 AM mass most Sundays. CLW is a program that invites school-aged children (kindergarten through grade 5) to leave the larger parish assembly to celebrate a concurrent Liturgy of the Word in the courtyard rooms and then return to the main parish assembly for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. The children experience the same readings and rituals as the larger parish assembly, but use a special children’s lectionary with a homiletic experience geared specifically for their age group.
In parallel with Plymouth-Canton and All Saints schools, Covid mitigation practices will be in place as we do our best to safely run this program. Masks will be worn by all who participate from the children through the adult volunteers, regardless of vaccination status. Students will sit on floor dots spaced three feet apart. We will remain as one group, unlike previous years when we split up into an older and younger group for our Gospel discussion, in order to keep the liturgical space as large and safe as possible.
This is a great program for the children of the parish, but can’t run without volunteers. Each week we need a leader, who runs the liturgy and Gospel discussion, an assistant, who helps supervise the children, and a signaler, who lets us know what part of the mass is happening in the church. Anyone who has been confirmed and has completed - or will complete - a Protecting God’s Children or Called to Serve workshop, is able to volunteer. Please contact Megan Whitaker at clw@abecket.org for more information. New brochures are in the Gathering Area.
