YOUTH MINISTRY AT ST. THOMAS A'BECKET
Greetings and welcome to the Wonderful World of Youth Ministry!
Here at St. Thomas a’Becket, we are blessed to have two very active and two very enthusiastic groups of youth within our parish family.
Our High School Youth Ministry program is open to all students, grades 9-12. We meet during the school year on Monday nights, from 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM. We hang out, we laugh, we talked about what’s going in the world around us.
Our Middle School Youth Ministry program is open to all students, grades 6-8. We meet during the school year on Wednesday nights, from 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM. If you are looking to have some fun (in a church, who would have thought?!?!) – then this is the place for you!
Our activities are so varied that you are almost guaranteed to find what you are looking for within this group. We do service, we do fun - we have even become world-wide travelers (check out the part about World Youth Day!) We do it all, and we do it knowing that God is the reason that we can.
The Youth Ministry program here at St. Thomas a’Becket has a very “open-door” policy. We don’t care if you are a parishioner – heck, we don’t even care if you are Catholic! We aren’t looking for a commitment; we actually aren’t looking for anything at all. Believe me, I know how busy you are. You have sports, you have clubs, you have lessons (and I won’t even get started on the amount of homework you come home with each night!) We are only interested in getting to know you.
I hear a lot of people say that “the youth are the future of our church” – and in retrospect, that is so very true. Our goal, though, is to bring that statement into the present tense. Yes, the youth are indeed the future of our church. Here are St. Thomas a’Becket, though, the youth are also very much a part of our church today. We don’t hide in the background of the happenings of everyday life and wait for it to be our turn. We are right there, up in everybody’s face, showing the world what we’ve got.
Our mission statement is simple:
We, as a community of young people, have been called by God to respond to the needs of our parish and to use and share the gifts that God has given us with the larger community. We will empower and welcome all those willing to do the same.
That is what we do; that is who we are.
In addition to Youth Ministry, we also offer a variety of sports programs for the youth of St. Thomas a'Becket. We offer a CYO Basketball league (directly affiliated with the Archdiocese of Detroit) for those in grades 4-8 and an inter-league T-Ball/C-Ball program for the younger ones.
So, if you are looking for a place to meet some new friends, if you are looking to have a great time, if you want to try something different and get involved with a group of people who might turn out to be just like you…stop on by and check us out. We can't wait to meet you!
