The role of a cantor is one of a leader of liturgical prayer. Specifically here at St. Thomas a’Becket, the cantor leads the psalm response at each mass. A cantor needs to develop strong musical/vocal skills as well as have a deep well of faith. The cantors are part of the assembly of the faithful, and it is their role to draw the attention of the faithful to God.
The cantors meet as a group the second Tuesday every month to pray over the psalms and work on vocal technique. If you are interested in auditioning, please contact Director of Music Ministry Brandon Gauvin at (734) 981-1333 ext. 26 or email him at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out more about the Cantor Training program at St. Thomas a'Becket.
